About Us

Anne & Dave Rawding E.D.A

The Nevada Western Dancers were formed in 1991 following a visit to a CountryWestern Music Festival at Butlin’s Holiday World,  Minehead in Somerset

Montana Western Dancers Coral & Ivan Burton gave us our first taste of Western Dancing

which has played a very important part in our social life this past 20 years

At that time there being no Western Dance classes in the area of Devon we had to travel into Somerset and down into Cornwall for dance tuition. Our love of country music entailed us supporting country music and dance clubs throughout the South West.

January 1991 was an eventful and memorable date in our lives in the formation of the Nevada Western Dancers from which evolved what was at that time  the most active and successful Country Western Music & Dance Club in the South West “Stockman’s C.W.M.D.C.to which I was very proud to be Chairman and Honorary President until its closure Sept 2006.

The Nevada Western Dancers was spearheaded by Anne supported by myself teaching Western Partner/Couples and line dances . Nevada introduced western dancing into Devon  Over the years Nevada built up a membership in excess of 500 devoted western dancers supporting dance classes and two social clubs throughout Devon and Somerset. In addition we were on call as guest instructors on a nationwide circuit travelling throughout the South West and afar a field as Blackpool. We were very fortunate having the opportunity to travel to the States and instructed at“The Wild Horse Saloon” in Nashville, danced at Billy Bobs in Texas and at the Arizona Classics dance championships in Tucson in 1995

The highlight of our dancing career was to be invited by Derri Promotions and Montana

Western Dancers to become one of their team of instructors for Butlin’s Holiday Worlds. We were one  of the founder members of the C.W.D.C (U.K.) The dance council was instigated by the Montana western dancers with it in mind to promote and set out national standards in the teaching of western dancing. We had the most enjoyable five years working at Butlins teaching at Skegness, Bognor Regis and Minehead which culminated in being invited to teach  at the Grand Western Re Union festival held at Butlin’s,  Minehead in 1997.

European Dance Academy

11th February 1996 we attended and participated in a Teacher Training Seminar and qualified out in the practical teaching of Partner, Line and Freestyle  western dancing (EDA)

It is most rewarding to reflect and analyse the western/ line dance scene of to day whereby a great number of the dance instructors throughout the South West were once Nevada Western Dancers and we are very proud to have been associated with them

A decision was taken for Nevada to retire from the main circuit February 1998 having run 7 dance classes and two social clubs a break was in order. However a return back after 13 years was instigated by our continued love of country music and to pass onto others the dances which we have gained so much pleasure from over the years.
